On new year 2009, some local climbers failed to reach Mahameru, the highest peak of Semeru volcano in East Java Indonesia because of volcanic activities level was increasing to level 2 and local official authority prohibited them to reach the peak, and only allowed to have a camp on Kali Mati Shelter.
Some other popular and interesting volcanoes have the same level of volcanic activities, and same recommendation for visitors, among them:
JAVA ISLAND
>PAPANDAYAN (2665 m) located in West Java, the level 2 (Attention). Visitors are prohibited to get close within radius of 1000 m from the crater.
>BROMO (2329 m) located in East Java, the level 2 (Attention). Visitors are prohibited to get on edge crater, and get close within 1.000 m from crater.
>KELUD(1731 m) located in East Java, the level is 2 (Attention). Visitors are prohibited to get close within 1,5 km from central eruption.
SUMATRA ISLAND
>TALANG (2597 m) located in West Sumatra. Visitors are prohibited to hike up the volcano, and get close within 1 km from active crater of the volcano.
>KERINCI (3805 m) located in West Sumatra And Jambi, the highest volcano in Indonesia. Visitor are prohibited to hike up and get close to crater on peak of the volcano.
> ANAK KRAKATAU (Lampung) located in Lampung. Visitor are prohibited to get close to Anak Krakatau within radius of 1000 m from peak of volcano Anak Krakatau.

NEWEST LEVEL OF VOLCANIC ACTIVITIES OF VOLCANO DEMPO
Dempo volcano located in Sumatra island. Last eruption recorded on Sept, 2, 2006. Since January, 1, 2009 the level of volcanic activities of the volcano get more increase to level 2 ( Attention). Center For Vulcanology And Geological Disaster Mitigation had delegated Early Warning Team to evaluates volcanic activities on field. HOW ABOUT VOLCANO MERAPI ???
MERAPI VOLCANO (2968 m) is one of the most active volcano in the world, but now the level of volcanic activities of the volcano is in level 1 (Normal Active). However, climbing up Garuda, the highest peak of the volcano is prohibited by Center For Volcanology And Geological Disaster Mitigation, and only allowed to climb up till Pasar Bubra Shelter.
