MERAPI TREKING HIKING 2Days / 1Night




This 2 days and 1 night trekking begin in the foot slope of volcano Merapi northern slope at village of Selo. Begin the Hike at afternoon and set up tent on camp site for overnight.Tent for 1 pax completed with tent lamp and air mat plus pillow to let you get maximum comfort of rest and recovery before proceeding the hike in early cool morning heads for summit of Merapi.


This hike allow us to enjoy sunset along the way ascent. As we reach elevation above 2200 alt we experience the tranquility and beauty of sunset with volcano background view such us volcano Merbabu on the northern side, and volcanoes Sumbing, Sundoro,Slamet on western side, while below us green field of valley and hilly mountain…and in front of us is conical shape structure of peak body of volcano Merapi.This hike much easier and maximizing your enjoyment due to more time for adaption on rising altitude of the volcano, as well as deeper interaction to volcanic environment.Suitable for most people, outdoor recreation seekers, and new comers of volcano hikers.

DAY TO DAY ITINERARY:

DAY ONE / YOGYAKARTA - SELO 1550m - CAMP SITE 2400m ( L,D)

Pick up at hotel lobby you stay around city of Yogyakarta,trip briefing and  transferring by AC private car to hiking Base Camp of Selo.Upon arrival,take break, arrival report and registration, have lunch, and final preparation at Base Camp.After briefing,we then begin the hike slowly at noon through local farmland, mountain forest ecosystem, unstable stony hiking trail and cross some volcanic boulders of Merapi. After hiking 3 hours we eventually reach the camp site where we will set up tents for overnight and take in view of volcano Merapi’s peak. Long rest,dinner and having sleep in comfort tent will revive you sooner.Today actual hike 3 hours, and transfer 2,5 - 3 hours.Overnight by camp in tent.

DAY TWO / CAMP SITE - SUMMIT /  CRATER RIM +- 2800m- CAMP SITE - YOGYAKARTA ( B,L )

Proceed the hike through hardest section of sandy and volcanic boulder of Merapi heading for peak zone in dark early cool morning.Upon reaching the peak, a stunning view waits.Below us the large sensational view of volcanic craters of Merapi spewing forth smoke, while on western side is volcanic rock formation with .On northern side is closest view of old volcano Merbabu, while on east side is volcano Lawu, Ajuna-Walirang in far distance.After picnic on peak zone, we then begin the descent back to camp site for breakfast.On the way descent, we still have mach time for photo stops.After breakfast,proceed the descent back to basecamp where our car is waiting for us to drive return to your hotel or airport of Yogyakarta.Today actual hike 4 hours, and transfer 2,5 - 3 hours. Lunch at Basecamp.Arrive Yogyakarta city approx 03:00 pm.

 GRADING & DIFFICULTY PLUS SPECIAL:

Technically, the route is moderate, you need only to walk upward on most sections of the route, and sometimes need to function your hand to keep your body balance while moving upward or downward along several short section of the route on altitude around 2300 m up new summit of Merapi. Special trekking shoes designed for rugged terrain is well suggested for safer and more comfortable.

Guiding team lead you up rising elevation 200 m per hour at beginning of the hike, then 300 m per hour with normal break 10 minutes each hour. On descending down, dropping down elevation normally 350 - 400 m per hour with normal break 10 minutes per hour for each hour. Breaking time is your time to have snacks, more drink, adjusting hiking gears and other needs. During on actual hiking, you always have time to stop to have drink little by little or take photo stop and so on. We are not in rush...this way provides you sufficient time to adapt to rising altitude of the volcano and gain more comfort in outdoor of Merapi.

You carry only your personal belonging ( Backpack, change of clothes,camera, personal medicine and so on ) plus supplied safety gears, 1 bottle of mineral water, light snack and fruit.The difficulty lies on steep terrain, unstable stony trail over elevation 2300 m up summit plus sandy path over elevation 2600 m. Gas and smoke sulfur plus weather condition (strong wind, fog, cool and so on ) effect to difficulty level of the hike.

Our camp site is on elevation around 2400 m, and there is no need to make camp fire during on camp site since all required gears for protection and adaptation to volcano environment are sufficiently available with us.

For more enjoyment, it's strongly suggested to practice active sport as part of your hiking preparation for more enjoyment of the hike.Develop your endurance by footing / jogging  without any excessive fatigue is better. If you practice sport climbing, stretching and bouldering are also useful to develop your body flexibility for better perform of balance while walking up/downward on volcanic boulders .
