SHAPE OF INDONESIAN VOLCANO: Volcano Type

Based on character or style of volcano extruction ( explosive eruption, effusive eruption, and mixing both explosive and effusive eruption ) and ejected volcanic material during eruption phase, shape of volcano commonly divided in to three types: Strato, Maar, and Shield.Based on this classification, in Indonesia there are at least 2 types of volcano shape identified, there are Maar and Strato types.

Maar Volcano type is built by explosive eruptions style (a phreatomagmatic eruption).Ejecting volcanic materials are relative little.Maar volcano is Low relief, broad and could turn to be volcanic lake.It form a relatively shallow crater lake which may also be called a maar.sample of Maar Volcanoe currently discovered around area of Gunung Muria in Central Java.Another sample of Maar volcano turning in to lake is Lake Klakah araound area of Volcano Lamongan in East Java.

This is a conical volcano built by mixing eruptions turning (explosive and effusive) continuously. Ejected volcanic materials ( tephra ), lava flow and pyroclastic constructed over a period of tens to hundreds of thousands of years.Since it conical,it's terrain then highly steeper. This conical volcano is common shape of volcano in the world, and generally Indonesian volcanoes are Strato in shape.(Updated: 2016)
